Go to the famous Cenote Azul (Blue Hole) (2.5 km). Walk around Bacalar coast to cool off with a good swim. Enjoy a good typical Caribbean meal. We also have a jungle tour intense but passable to reach a small self-sufficient community where you can enjoy 100% organic food. Following are some great attractions of the town of Bacalar:
-The Fort of San Felipe Bacalar
It is located opposite of the main square of the town of Bacalar. The central hut and the landscaped park/garden is the preferred location for meetings, leisure and is the home of the local celebrations such as carnival and the fair of Bacalar.
The fort of San Felipe, built in 1729, has been an example of military architecture in New Spain, as it prevented the incursions of pirates and freebooters, besides being historical witness of countless battles against the British, who sought to control logwood trade and other precious woods (mahogany, sapodilla and so on.). At that time, they had a drawbridge for the defense. The fort is now the Museum of San Felipe de Bacalar, which, although small but full of history. Maps and drawings generally tell you the historical development of the area. Maps show the ships as they arrived through the Lake of Bacalar.
